In Remembrance – Don Armitage

Don Armitage passed away last week.
Anyone who was in the sport  between the 1970’s -to the late 1990s will remember Don as a TD, Steward, Show jumping designer, Director  of the OHTA and National horse trials associations. He was instrumental in growing the sport in its earlier days. He was involved in The Checkmate CCI*** and Bromont CCI*** . In his later career he became the resident show jumping course designer at Checkmate.
Don came from a Military background and did everything with the same military precision. He loved horses. He was the consummate horseman. The horse came first- always. He expected no less from others.
He had a wicked sense of humour that was always bubbling under the surface. Those of us who were lucky to work with him were always aware that we had to be well prepared or we would be a target of his brilliant sense of humour.
Don was a mentor to all of us in that era and he taught us well.
Don, Enjoy your hacks in Heaven.
You will be missed.
