Novice Adult Program

If you are 21 as of January 1st, have never ridden above Pre-Training and are a REGULAR RIDER, then you are eligible to take part in the Novice Adult Program. OPEN RIDERS are not eligible.

Please remember you must register each year to qualify as a Novice Adult for the upcoming season.

Please Note: Novice Adult riders only begin to accumulate points after they have registered.

Points/Awards:
As a Novice Adult you will compete in the Regular Entry or Regular Pre-Training Division and receive ribbons and points the same as all the other riders. These points will be recorded on the regular Leaderboard and count towards year-end awards.
Novice Adult point accumulation: only the horse/rider's top 8 point scores will be counted to determine the winners.

After each event we will separate the Novice Adult scores from the rest of the competitors and points will be awarded and recorded on a separate Novice Adult Leader Board. Points will be awarded based on the number of Novice Adults that start in each division.
You may join the Novice Adult Program at any time during the season, but you will only begin to accumulate points once you have registered. Any points earned before this will not be counted.
At the Year-End Banquet, the top 3 Novice Adults will receive awards.
The Novice Adult Leaderboard will be updated at the same time as the regular leaderboard, so you can keep track of your totals.

Championships: We will hold a Novice Adult Championships for both the Regular Entry and Regular Pre-Training Divisions at the same time as the regular OHTA Provincial Championships.
Novice Adults must qualify for the Championships exactly the same way as any other competitors; they must place in the top 4 at the Entry or Pre-Training level at an event during the season (that is, top 4 in the whole division, not top 4 among the Novice Adults).
On your Championship entry form, make sure to indicate that you are a Novice Adult.
At the end of the competition, the Novice Adult scores will be pulled out and a separate set of awards given. Placings in the Novice Adult Championships earn points on the Novice Adult leaderboard. Points for Championships are double the regular season points.

How Points are calculated:
If there are 8 or more Novice Adults who start in each division, points are awarded as follows:
  • 1st - 8
  • 2nd - 7
  • 3rd - 6
  • 4th - 5
  • 5th - 4
  • 6th - 3
  • 7th - 2
  • 8th - 1

If there are less than 8, first place would receive as many points as there are starters and down from there. For example, if there are 5 Novice Adults that start in a particular class, they would receive points as follows:
  • 1st - 5 points
  • 2nd - 4 points
  • 3rd - 3 points
  • 4th - 2 points
  • 5th - 1 point

Even if all 5 starters did not finish the class - say two people were eliminated - the points would still be:
  • 1st - 5 points
  • 2nd - 4 points
  • 3rd - 3 points
